Woolworths joins True’s Leading Industry Partner Programme.

Leading retailer in South Africa joins to access cutting edge technologies and the newest products

Woolworths Holdings Limited (WHL), a leading South African  clothing and food retail group, has joined True as a leading industry partner to gain exclusive access to deep sector knowledge and exposure to emerging retail technologies to help propel its operational functions and ensure the company remains future-ready.

The Partnership will enable Woolworths to learn about and adopt technologies and consumer products which will continually enhance its customers’ experience and help drive operational effectiveness in its businesses located across the Southern Hemisphere.

Sam Ngumeni, WHL Group Chief Operating Officer, comments: “As a retailer, we are customer obsessed. Everything we do has our customers’ journey in mind and every touch point is an opportunity for us to influence, delight and surprise.  To have access to the latest technologies will improve both the experience we provide our customers and the way we do business and this is exceptionally exciting for us.”

Mike Tattersall, CCO at True, comments: “We are delighted to have agreed an alliance with Woolworths Holdings, the pre-eminent department store retailer in the Southern Hemisphere. We will work together to build a Partnership across its operations in South Africa and Australia, hereby becoming True’s first international Partner. We are very excited to work with Woolworths’ local teams to help augment their innovation agenda. Already our portfolio company Photospire, which enables brands to produce personalised, context-specific marketing communications at mass scale, is working with Woolworths to enhance its digital marketing and we anticipate that many similarly purposeful introductions will be made in the period ahead.”

Woolworths will have access to the latest innovation and products that the retailer can immediately use in their operations. Tattersall concludes: “All businesses within the True portfolio, whether that is private equity or our startup innovators, have the ability to truly inform real change in the retail, consumer and leisure industries. Woolworths has identified the value that True can bring to its business operations and we’re looking forward to the next few months as we work to align the very best offerings with Woolworths’ priorities.”

True has today relaunched its global business proposition, bringing together its private equity and startup investment firms (True Capital and TrueStart) to establish True, Europe’s only retail and consumer private equity specialist. Its sector specialism in retail and consumer is fundamentally focused on investing in business models of the future. Via its Live Network, True offers the industry a model that enables purposeful introductions, which deliver actionable value – whether that is access to innovation, accelerated growth opportunities, potential investments or talent.
